What can you do with a Sociology Degree

We often find ourselves asking, what can you do with a s Sociology Degree (or what can I do with a sociology degree if you are current completing this degree).   A Sociology degree gives you many opportunities in the business world. People that major in Sociology typically love to study people and human behavior. Many times those that go after this particular degree will work in government and social services, because in both of those careers, there is a decided interest in getting large groups of people to coexist peacefully.

Some core strengths that may make Sociology a great choice for you loves to crunch numbers, being curious about how people live and get along together, being organized and being able to gather meaning from the numbers and facts you collect.
Some of the fields that can be gone into with a Sociology degree are Advocacy careers where you’ll be doing things like advocating for children’s rights, environmental issues, community organization and similar things like that where they need a spokesperson representing them. In the Government field, Sociology majors can work in the Census Bureau, do Social Science analysis, Homeland Security, and Policy analysis.

Many Sociology Degree holders work in social services agencies, developmental disabilities agencies, and in areas such as adoption, mental health services, child care, and organizations like that where the services of someone speaking out for the well being of the people involved is at the mercy of the governmental procedures around them.

Since sociology is a study of humans and human behavior, the careers that most go into involve dealing with people on some level, whether hands on, such as a case worker, or even behind the scenes such as compiling information that is researched, and coming up with ways to better the community for these people.  Pretty much any career where you are dealing with people will be enhanced by those with a sociology degree, especially the counseling field. That is why many sociology majors end up in social services, helping children and youth in their own environments, and help them become successful adults themselves.
Anyone who studies the behavior patterns of people, and tries to find solutions to problems involving groups of people within communities will be well rewarded by a Sociology degree. FBI agencies and other law enforcement agencies will hire someone with a sociology degree to help solve cases. It’s possible that someone with a sociology background will be able to determine a criminal’s next move, kind of like a profiler.

Corrections facilities can also be benefited by a sociology major, because they can help to plan successful programs for the inmates, and based on their knowledge of human behavior, no what types of programs will be helpful and which will fall flat of their objective.  As of lately we have seen such an increase in need for trained professionals in this field that there has been an uptick in sociology degree scholarship programs strictly aimed at helping train individuals in the best practices of a sociology professional.

There is a career for a sociology degree holder in almost every type of career sector out there (note the sociology and social work are different ), because all things, Business careers, medical careers, government careers and more all have the needs of someone who knows how to study individuals and groups and know how to set up programs and plans that benefit those individuals and groups.  In closing, we need to make sure that we understand that this degree is a conduit to many ventures within life.  The question shouldn’t really be what can you do with a sociology degree, or what should I do with a sociology degree, but what will I do with my Sociology Degree.  It’s a major with many opportunities and for anyone who loves to learn the ins and outs of people; this is the way to go.
